Joining a Moms Community vs Being a Solo Mompreneur
Now that you have taken your first steps towards being a work at home mom, there is one more important thing to consider. Do you prefer working alone or would you prefer to have the opportunity to connect with like minded moms inside a moms community? Let’s compare the two before you make your final choice.
As a stay at home mom, you are all ready aware of the fact that it’s easy to become trapped in your home. This is especially true if you have a baby to care for. It can be difficult to get out. You need to schedule your day around nap times and feeding times. It’s very easy to feel alone and isolated!
The same can be said about working from home. On top of caring for your young child, you will need to schedule work time in too. This can keep you more housebound than you may realize.
But you do have options. Let’s take a look at them.
Going it alone as a solo Mompreneur
This will be your natural first choice. You automatically assume that as you are now the CEO of your own mom business, you have to go it alone. For some moms, this is they way they prefer to work, or is it really?
Here’s how your day might proceed:
You get up early, when your hubby gets up for work, and then see him off.
You then head to your office, and start working for an hour or so until your little one wakes up.
Next you spend time with your child, have breakfast and plan out the day. If it’s a school day, you get them off to school and then head back to work. If it’s vacation time, or your child is small then you have to plan out activities. This can include going to the park, playing outside with them or doing crafts on a rainy day.
For school aged kids you have an agreement with them. You spend quality time in the morning with them, then in the afternoon it’s their turn to play by themselves for an hour or two so you can work. As long as you can keep them busy with crafts and activities this works out well.
For a younger child, you would simply work while they take their afternoon nap.
Of course, you still have to schedule in time for housework, laundry, grocery shopping and taking the kids to any outside activities or clubs they have joined.
It’s the afternoon now, and you have run into an issue with your business. You are stuck on a problem and spend most of your free time looking online for an answer. This really eats into your productivity and sets you back in terms of what you had completed. Finally, you do get the issue resolved, after several hours of searching.
You are now feeling flustered and have to rush to get dinner ready and then spend more quality time with your family.
Before heading off to bed you get back online and check any emails, and maybe decide to do a little work while the house is quiet. Then you feel guilty because you have ignored your husband, this was the one thing you wanted to avoid. You end your day not feeling the best.
Does this sound like you?
You may have even experienced this type of scenario yourself. It sucks when you get stuck with a problem and have to spend hours searching for answers.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have access to an online moms community or some type of working moms groups, where you might be able to find the answer to your problem faster?
Your issue doesn’t necessarily have to be a business problem. Maybe you would love to discover how other moms keep their kids busy so they can get some work in. Or you would love advice or feedback on a project?
What if you were creating an ecover for your new Kindle book, and would love some opinions? It would be great to just stop by a stay at home mom community and get some feedback.
Let’s look at this in more detail.
A Moms Community Online
Here’s how you can make use of a moms community or mom support groups online with your day.
You are up early working while your kids are still sleeping. You’re feeling a little lazy and need some motivation to kick things in gear.
So you drop by your favorite online moms community and say hello to other moms. It gives you a great feeling to have somewhere you can connect with other work at home moms.
Whether you just want to say hi, or listen to a motivational video, you enjoy belonging to this community. One of the biggest benefits for you, has been making friends with other moms across the country, if not from around the world.
You discover that you are not alone with your feelings and struggles with trying to balance family and work. It’s fantastic to get some great tips from other moms too.
After a quick drop in, while you are having coffee, you are ready to get back to work. You feel energized and ready to get things moving forward with your business.
It’s summer and your kids are getting bored with their afternoon activities. You need some fresh ideas, so you can keep them occupied while you work for a bit.
You pop back into the moms community and ask other moms how they keep their kids busy. Within a few minutes you have some great ideas that you can put into place. Problem solved, your kids are happy, and you can get on with growing your business.
Later on that day you run into a formatting issue for your new book you are writing. Instead of spending hours trying to fix the issue. You immediately pop back to the moms community and see if anyone has any ideas for you. After a few messages back and forth you find a solution, or know where to go to get more help.
Can you see how much time you are saving by being part of a moms community?
